PubTrans pt.2

So I often take pictures of funny things I see on the train, and this one fits in quite nicely. Thank God for my iphone right? People can just assume I'm texting instead of pointing my little lens at them. This one below was from last week. This dude across from me was reading a how-to-guide on "The Art of Surfing", and it was thick too. How much information can be in there... I've been surfing, I got up... and I didn't read a manual. I can only hope he's preparing for a vacation in Hawaii and hoping to get some insane big waves that may kill you, so he's reading up on Ch. 4 "How not to die". Also the fact that it was probably a high of 11 degrees made this seem a tad bit absurd as well. Oh pub tran.
(I also love his creepy stare!)

Advice

(oh and this one was added later) ...

k... So I am making some band posters for some friends' band, and I did these today at work. Before I email them to the guys I just wanted to get some random opinions. I did them pretty quick, they aren't really done and I'm doing other versions...but so far...are these "cool"/"awful"/"ok"/"erin you are a terrible designer"? Let me know. :)
Oh and for the one on the far right I am illustrating Ms. Dietrich for another version when I get home.

The Beat Foisters

So a little while ago, some co-workers posed a question "If you were making a boy-band, what would it consist of?" and left it on a white board to get responses. Below is the picture of the white board with suggestions from people we work with. Since the board was filled  with so many great suggestions, we wrote them down and I chose a select few to illustrate, and thus "The Beat Foisters" were born. haha. I emailed this drawing to some people this morning, the loved it.

things look much cooler this way

Morton Grove's finest....

So I have been riding the Metra to work for 4 months now and I JUST noticed the little shelf in the train station with a sign on it saying "Morton Grove Library". So I checked out what books they had on this shelf that someone purposely picked from the MG library. UM WOW... I only took a photo of three of these great novels, but I assure you there were two shelves worth of all books like this:

Maybe Ill let "Colton's Folly" help the time pass while waiting for the train this afternoon. haha. These are great.

For the Southerners...

Many of you know that this week has gotten into crazy cold temperatures. It's been a typical cold chicago winter so far, which I haven't minded all that much since it is new to me, but this week has been vicious. Today there is a high of -1 and a low of ...oh something like -14. It is supposed to get back to mid 20's this weekend, and right now that sounds so warm because it is just stinging cold out. It makes it much worse when you have to wait for the trains that are later and more off schedule the colder it is. I think they plan it.  Just a few pics I took with my phone to show you all still in SC what it looks like here right now, and how I dress like an eskimo everyday and it's totally normal. This weather sucks but it's still better than SC :)

FOR REAL!? I LOVE MY JOB

This is what I did at work today, and NO I wasn't wasting time and thought a drawing of a kitty dressed like a ninja would be funny. I was asked to do this! Someone needed this for a concept of a book about....karate....kitties? I am not sure, but so glad I got to do this. Best thing I have worked on yet! haha.

Small world...

I went to the upper deck of the metra car this morning on my way to work like any other morning, but when I sat down and looked  ahead, I found this little gem! How weird to find a "My Carolina" Alumni sticker on a Chicago Metra train.... Small world. GO COCKS.

Happy bday Tim

Happy Birthday Dad! I even managed to turn my clip art illustrations into a heartfelt birthday card for my Dad, haha. I hope he appreciates a message from Duke Ellington.

Harry James aka. Clinton Kelly

I started another illustration at work today: Harry James...who I am assuming is a trumpet player, but as I started illustrating I realized he looks a lot like my favorite TV stylist, Clinton Kelly from WNTW (or at least I think so).

....and the semi-finished product of I drew....looks like neither. Oh well. Sorry fans of Armchair Readerzz.

B T Dub

Oh by the way, here is the end result of the print I was making shannon for christmas awhile ago. She's a vegetarian and I thought this meat cut diagram of veggies was funny for her. I printed it and framed it for her for christmas.
