New project

Working on a series of vintage Native American portraits, but am going to incorporate lots of geometric patterns and most likely some neon colors into these babies. Now all I have to do is blow them up and cut them out meticulously, no problem. Oof, why do I do this to myself?

SOLD

With holiday's coming up, it's been a busy week of printing, mailing, and getting new prints over to Sacred Art here in Chicago.  The busier the better though, keep 'em coming. Check out some already-made prints here or contact me to do anything custom: city prints, paintings, a portrait of your dog, haha—no but really. www.thisisyardsale.com

Happy Holidays!

I haven't posted in awhile...

I've been super busy, sick, and just plain lazy.

Mind = Blown

Video of Meryl Pataky and her neon art
Just another skill to add to the list of "Things to learn". Too bad all these on my list are extremely intricate and require lots of tools and years of experience.

Twitter fame

My brother and sister are big "tweeters". I use my twitter account every once in a while, but mostly for self promotion for artwork and designs, but I did tweet the picture of my pumpkin to John Lithgow once I saw he had a twitter. But my sister and brother also tweeted the links to my pumpkin and he actually responded to them and re-tweeted my brother. So funny.  This is when I think twitter is pretty cool, that you can have direct connection (or somewhat direct) to a person or company. Glad he liked it!

Lithgow Pumpkin!

Every year I get pretty serious about pumpkin carving. This year I decided to try the technique of actually carving and cutting to make a more layered design. Naturally, I chose to make a John Lithgow pumpkin.

Also, I dressed up as James Franco in drag for my halloween costume:

Penmanship

While doing research for a calligraphy book at work, I came across images of ornamental penmanship from the late 1800's/early 1900's that I am obsessed with. Besides amazingly beautiful handwriting, there's lots of illustrations made completely out of calligraphic strokes, and all by hand. I didn't even know this stuff existed but I've already got a folder full of links and images of this extremely detailed work. Also lots of really pretty ornate alphabets from around then too. Here's a good link of books and pdf's of all types of penmanship.

Just wait...

I'm excited about starting this...
If you haven't figured it out, its my plan for my pumpkin this year. It's a John Lithgow pumpkin, of course.

This was my pumpkin last year, of Mickey. This year I'm being a little more ambitious carving and cutting. I'll post pictures after this weekend! Happy Halloween everyone!

Painting: Day 1

I started a new painting last night. It's going to be of three carousel horses. Obviously this is just the beginning, it's going to be very different (or at least I hope it is) in the end. It's nice to finally paint something for myself for once.

Soapbox Success

Last night was the Green Soapbox event that I designed some printed material for. It was a good turnout, good food, good beers, I'd say a success! Here's a shot of the trivia cards (front and back) I designed and they printed that were in the middle of all the tables. (Edit: And also some the photographer took at the event with my design in it.)

BWWC OSU

My sister is part of the committee putting on the British Women Writers Conference at Ohio State this year. Above is the logo she asked me to put together, or actually illustration, to be used for their website and letters. Full website here. Spread the word to anyone interested in the conference!

Soujla boy would be jealous

Should I go into the Gucci/College bandana business? Why am I so skilled at making the dumbest, insignificant things that cannot really benefit my life? Haha....sigh. More pics of these to come this weekend at Madison.

Save the Dates

Just about finished with my sister's Save the Date's for her upcoming wedding. Spent the weekend cutting out the cards, return address labels and the 'H's that seal the envelopes.

On another note, congrats to my friends Emily and Alex on their engagement this weekend... like what you see? Hire me to do yours next! ;)

My sister and Doug's engagement announcement was in today's Sunday paper back at home. Geeze, how nerdy are they? JK ;)

Swamped

I have been pretty busy lately, nothing of too much importance or interest to get their own post yet, but here's a mashup of some random or in-progress projects that I'm working on.

But I'm never too busy, got a project or painting request? Email me! I actually need to start a new large painting soon.
