Summer Vacation

Today is my last day at work for a week. Tomorrow I am flying down to Columbia to spend a week with my family on Lake Murray. Seven days of boating, floating, eating, drinking, and just being lazy. I am too excited! Cannot wait to see everyone and finally get a week to relax! I plan on doing some projects when I'm there so if I get to it, I'll post those online, but most likely there won't be many posts for the next couple days.

Paper dolls

Stumbled upon a shelf of Tom Tierney paper doll books this weekend and I had to buy one, since we used to have so many as kids. I used to love these books, they were probably the nicest paper dolls you could get. I bought the "More Erte" one, above is from it.

Also, I totally had this one growing up, so funny:

Finished Luchador....finally

I let this one sit on my kitchen table for about a month. Here is the first finished print, one I'm keeping for myself because I got excess ink on the left side, hung it over my bed to match my bedspread. I made a few more and they turned out perfect. Expect some prints on etsy soon.
Also, how nice does a sunlit room look with cross-process iphone app?

My website is up and a-running!!

I know, it took me forever, but I finally got my website up. It's not perfect yet, still need to change some designs out and work out a  few kinks, but it's up and running! And it links to my blog and etsy site (TECHNOLOGY!). So take a look around www.thisisyardsale.com .

Special thanks to Kyle for making it work!

Skinny dippin' party photos:

Here are some of the photos from the party for Essex Channel 's music video premier. I didn't make it to the party but the boards I painted were apparently a hit. (Scroll down to see them from the beginning.) You can watch their video (and the boards might start making sense to you) here !

Brilliant Bikes

Just working on a hand-drawn logo for my next thing I'm working on. Keep a look out on this idea to develop more this summer. I just love this type.

Sacred Art

Yesterday, I took a stack of prints of my cities over to Sacred Art in Lincoln Square. It's a really cute little gallery with a ton of amazing work at really good prices. Pop in if you're in the neighborhood, right across from The Davis Theatre, and buy a print! Or if you're not in Chicago, all of them are still available here !

Happy Birthday Justin

Following the theme of ridiculous artwork this week.... Justin's birthday present:
This makes me laugh so hard.

Above is what I illustrated for Mickey to Justin. Nothing says love more than a joint mustache.

Finished

Well the photo-head-in-hole boards for Essex Channel's music video premier party are done. I painted for most of the night last night to finish them up, there's still a tiny bit of detail that needs to be done (and hands and feet, I'm so bad at them!) but they're basically complete here. It probably looks pretty odd, but this scene has to do with the music video being shown tomorrow night, they're obviously skinny dippers to go along with the song's title. These are really funny and can't wait to see people take their pictures as them at the party on saturday. (previous )

Clybar flyer:

Gotta love reusing illustrations.
(This is not the stencil below, this is a digital version, I'm still working on the painting.)

Day two:

My progress on the boards for Essex Channel. My studio apartment is a full-on studio at the moment, art supplies are everywhere.

Skinny Dippin'

Last night I started painting a photo-head-in-hole-board for a friend for his music video premier party. It's for the band Essex Chanel  for their new music video, "Skinny Dipping".  It's hard to tell from the photo just what the layout is yet, but you can get an idea of some of the elements from the poster below. I'll post more as it comes along.

Hawks, The Reader, and YMC poster

Last night the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup! I watched it at a friend's house and then biked home through crazy streets, it was fun to watch the games up 'til this point. Chicago was going crazy last night:

Also my Chi Pub Lib poster was in the reader this week. Pick one up!
And here's a flyer I am working for for a gig of my brother's (Young Man Carbuncular and Oops!)

She and Him...ahh

Last night, as part of the first in the "Downtown Sound" series, She and Him played a free concert in Millennium park. The place was insanely packed due to the general love/obsession everyone has for Zooey Deschanel. They sounded so great, even better than an album and Zooey never even missed a note. Great night, glad we got to snag some seats in the front instead of way back in the grass.
(last two photos via metromix)
Also just a clip I took with my phone to give you a very small perspective on how amazing she sounds live:

I won!

Remember the ChiPubLib design contest I did a poster for... well last night was the awards ceremony at the top floor of the gorgeous library (seriously if you've never been to the top "Winter Garden", go) and I won! Well me and another guy tied for the win, but still pretty exciting!
My printed poster that will be framed:
Me smiling like a goon next to my poster:
So look for my poster in bus stops and signs around the city soon, also in The Reader next week too! It's been a pretty good week.

One mask...

I added the first mask to what I hope will be a finished print soon. 3 masks and a bit of color I'm thinking, we'll see how it goes. Hit me up if you want something similar for your home.
Also, I'm really not sure what the point is of the iphone app Bubble Harp (or any of the similar apps by Scott Sona Snibbe) but they're just cool looking. A series of crazy lines and dots appear by the swipe of your finger and you can manipulate it by each touch. Again, not sure of the point but I am going to take a few screen captures because they make for great background patterns for designs and paintings.

Luchador print

I finished the image of the luchador head I drew last week. I transfered it to a printing block and carved it all out yesterday, turned out pretty good. Above is just the first test print, going to tweak it and remove the outer edges so the finished print will be just the mask.
