One Hawk, two COCKS

This is too funny. October 17, Katie, our friend Paul and I are running in the Men's Health Urbanathalon. It's a race around downtown but with lots of obstacles (tires, stairs, hurdles, jumping over taxi cabs etc.) So I wanted to make our team a t-shirt for it. Paul went to Iowa, and we are gamecocks, obviously, so this is the t-shirt design I have drawn so far. It's so funny, but has made me realized how strange our mascot looks. 

Both of these mascots are birds, yet the Hawkeye is strong, wears clothes, and has a human-like figure. Cocky, on the other hand, is basically wearing a mu-mu, has ladies legs (in black leggings?), has slippers for feet, and doesn't wear pants? He was obviously modeled after Mickey mouse or some character because the original one they use on the website has white cartoon gloves also. I think it's time for a redesign USC. 

But back to the design--I will put our team name on it most likely, but had started working on a cloud of smoke behind them. It's not right though, something's off....suggestions? I'll post the final when it's done.

New painting pt.1

So I've started working on a new painting for friends. They wanted something really big and colorful, so this is what I'm working with so far. The canvas is 60" x 36", I've been obsessed with crazy  patterns lately so I've started laying out the background pattern of this weird geometric block staircase thing, inspired by a print by Will Bryant (love this guys work). 

I am not sure about colors yet, I think I may want to use different ones than above, but eventually I want to paint a person similar to the photo above, but in my style and perhaps in black and white, over the whole entire pattern. I do not think I will cover the whole canvas with the geometric pattern either.... Still working on the whole idea. Thoughts?

Nerd Alert

Saturday morning there was the Windy City Comicon right by my house so Mickey, Vanessa and I went...no really. haha. It was pretty cool, I have so much respect for the artists just sitting there illustrating full-on scenes and characters with no references, awesome. 

and I bought this cheesey hello kitty as Wonderwoman. haha

Today I got orange juice from the vending machine. I wasn't sure how it would be packaged. It came in a can and because of this I expected it to be carbonated. I prefer my OJ not in metal.
